Come Play with Us.
Join the Orchestra!

We are a people’s orchestra, and we invite you to join us!  All players of traditional instruments (including, but not limited to fiddle, viola, cello, double bass, acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, flute, whistle, recorder, harmonica, accordion, keyboard) are welcome.

We have 2 sessions a year: September – December and January – April.  In each session we have approximately 12 weekly rehearsals followed by a public performance.  In the summer we often play smaller gigs at farmer’s markets, fairs, and the like.

Join the fun. Nothing hones your musical skills like playing with other musicians.  Tuition for each season’s session (total for the entire session) is $85.

Weekly rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Capital City Grange in Montpelier and the upcoming seaon’s dates will be posted here early in September.

You must officially register for the session.  Registration forms will be available online and at the rehearsals for a few weeks before and after each season’s rehearsals begin. A link to an online regisration form will be posted here.

Tuition for the session is $85 – that is $85 total, not $85 per rehearsal!  If the tuition is a hardship for you, please talk to Nora (VFO Board President) – scholarships and payment plans are available. No one is ever turned away for lack of tuition money.

Payments greater than $85 are welcome.  The additional amount will be considered a donation to the orchestra, and you will receive an acknowledgment of the donation.

New folks can attend their first rehearsal for free to see if they want to join the VFO (we hope you do) and then payment is due at their second rehearsal.

  • Tuition can be paid by check at the first 3 rehearsals or if you are doing zoom.  Make checks to the Vermont Fiddle Orchestra – please put “tuition” in the memo line on your check. You can mail your check to Vermont Fiddle Orchestra, PO Box 806, Montpelier VT  05601 or give it to Joanne at rehearsal.
  • Other ways to pay include, by PayPal using the link in the online registration form. If you use the PayPal link, don’t forget that you need to finish your registration and submit the form to finish the process. The PayPal link does not require a PayPal account
  • Or there will be a credit card reader at rehearsals if you want to pay with a credit card in person.
Please remember you have to fill out one version of the registration form AND pay your tuition by the third week to be considered a member of the Spring Session and continue to receive the emails and music.

If you have any questions, please send an email to [email protected] or call Joanne (VFO Manager) at 802-229-4191.
